A Call for Schools and Communities

Thank you to all who made our 2013 season a delightful success! Our Side-by-Side Project concluded on a high note with our final performance of Grieg’s Holberg Suite, featuring CMB artists alongside talented students from Lynbrook and Saratoga High Schools. A special thanks to the music teachers at CMB’s 2013 Partner Schools: Michael Boitz (Saratoga High), Mike Pakaluk (Lynbrook High), Jon Jow and Scott Krijnen (Redwood Middle School), Scott Krijnen (Castillero Middle School), and One World Montessori Schools, and also to our host school organization, the one-and-only Saratoga Music Boosters!

Chamber Music by the Bay is starting to plan its 2014 season already (can you believe it?!), and we’re continuing to expand our school, community, and library partnerships across the Bay Area. Are you part of a school or community institution that seeks dynamic, engaging chamber music education? Are you interested in fun chamber music education concerts for youth? Would you like to host a performance by CMB artists or the CMB Side-by-Side Project? If any of these apply to you (or more), please contact us at! We’re looking forward to working together to make chamber music a greater part of all of our lives!

CMB’s Concerts for Children

We spent the morning with brilliant 2-6 year olds from One World Montessori Schools in San Jose and Santa Clara, where we learned about notes, beats, rhythm, and harmony in chamber music! After rousing renditions of “Ba, Ba, Black Sheep” and “Twinkle, Twinkle” at the Cabrillo campus, students had wonderful questions, including inquiries about the bridges of our instruments, formation of quartets, and the formation of Chamber Music by the Bay! The One World Montessori students have wonderful singing voices, and we were so excited to spend our morning with both schools.

Next, we’re heading to work with the orchestra students at Redwood Middle School this afternoon. Last year we learned about elements of chamber music rehearsal and performance, and this year, we’ll apply those same principles to the 2nd string quartet by Bela Bartok!

Don’t forget to join us this evening at 7:00pm at Los Altos Library for our last children’s concert of the 2013 season! We’ll be concluding the evening with an instrument petting zoo, so here’s your chance to try out your very own violins!

2013 Season Concerts

Chamber Music by the Bay is happening! We’re kicking off our 2013 season THIS Saturday, January 5th, with a NEW concert at 11:00 AM to fundraise for mental health and community support agencies for the families of Newtown, Connecticut, in collaboration with flautist Ray Furuta and the Silicon Valley Music Festival. The concert will be held at Alum Rock United Methodist Church, at 30 Kirk Avenue in San Jose, and will feature music for string quartet and flute! We’re excited about collaborating with Ray and hope that you can join us in support of the Newtown, CT community. That same afternoon, we’ll be playing a program for kids 10 and under at Morgan Hill Library at 3:00 PM.

Next, we’ll be performing two free Concerts in the Community on Wednesday, January 9th, at El Camino Hospital in Mountain View and at San Francisco Towers in San Francisco– join us to hear works by Mendelssohn, Haydn, and Bartok!

You can now reserve a ticket for our 2013 Celebration Concert on January 12th at 7:30 PM through EventBrite! Tickets will be available at the door for $10 adults/$5 students. Don’t miss our collaboration with these seriously incredible high school students from Saratoga and Lynbrook High Schools!

Alex, Zenas, Tobin, and Jess are looking forward to seeing you all during our 2013 season!
