2014 Season: March 29 – April 5!

CMB with Keiko

CMB is busy planning its 2014 partnerships, which have been rescheduled to March 29 – April 5, 2014! In between seasons, we like to reflect on our work with our partnership schools and community organizations to see how we can continue to share our music in meaningful, creative ways in the Bay Area.

We were particularly inspired last season by our encounter with a Bay Area artist, Keiko O’Leary, who we were fortunate to meet at the Saratoga Library last year. Keiko wrote a beautiful entry on our fortuitous meeting here: http://blog.keikooleary.com/post/40464472370/gesture-drawing-musicians

Not only were we touched by Keiko’s beautiful artistry, but by her generosity to share it with us and our audience members. This is exactly what we strive to do– to actively create, share, and inspire others with our music. Keiko, your creativity project is an inspiration to all of us!

In the meanwhile, if you are a teacher, community member, parent, or student who is interested in collaborating with CMB in 2014, please follow CMB’s page on Facebook or get in touch with us via e-mail at chambermusicbythebay@gmail.com!

We are looking forward to being back in March 2014!

CMB’s 2014 season: March 29 – April 5!

CMB is excited to announce the dates of its 2014 season: March 29 – April 5! If you are a school, library, hospital, or community venue interested in hosting a CMB performance for audiences of any age, please contact us at chambermusicbythebay@gmail.com. Specific dates and performances will be announced in Fall 2013, so please stay tuned for a list of our partner venues and schools in Spring 2014.

In the meanwhile, a special congratulations to all of our partner schools in the Bay Area for their successful spring concerts! We will miss our graduating seniors, and hope that you will each continue to share your music in meaningful ways. A huge congratulations also to Mr. Boitz from Saratoga High School for being named Educator of the Year by the California Music Educators Association! CMB is fortunate to work with Mr. Boitz, Mr. Pwu, and all of the Saratoga HS students. Mr. Boitz, you are an inspiration for all of our learning, teaching, and music-making, and we congratulate you!

A Call for Schools and Communities

Thank you to all who made our 2013 season a delightful success! Our Side-by-Side Project concluded on a high note with our final performance of Grieg’s Holberg Suite, featuring CMB artists alongside talented students from Lynbrook and Saratoga High Schools. A special thanks to the music teachers at CMB’s 2013 Partner Schools: Michael Boitz (Saratoga High), Mike Pakaluk (Lynbrook High), Jon Jow and Scott Krijnen (Redwood Middle School), Scott Krijnen (Castillero Middle School), and One World Montessori Schools, and also to our host school organization, the one-and-only Saratoga Music Boosters!

Chamber Music by the Bay is starting to plan its 2014 season already (can you believe it?!), and we’re continuing to expand our school, community, and library partnerships across the Bay Area. Are you part of a school or community institution that seeks dynamic, engaging chamber music education? Are you interested in fun chamber music education concerts for youth? Would you like to host a performance by CMB artists or the CMB Side-by-Side Project? If any of these apply to you (or more), please contact us at chambermusicbythebay@gmail.com! We’re looking forward to working together to make chamber music a greater part of all of our lives!

Celebrating our 2013 Season: Tonight!

Chamber Music by the Bay was so excited to have a surprise artist in our audience at the Saratoga Library this morning! We were joined by Bay Area artist Keiko O’Leary and her family for the morning as we performed and shared excerpts of quartets by Haydn and Bartok. As we focused on learning to be active listeners & interpreters of music, especially Bartok, Keiko drew these beautiful sketches of the whole quartet! Here is her drawing of CMB violinist Alex Shiozaki, and for all of us who know him/have seen him, it’s unmistakably him! Thank you, Keiko, for joining us this morning!

Don’t forget to join us this evening at the McAfee Center at Saratoga High School (20300 Herriman Avenue, Saratoga) to celebrate our final concert! Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students, and all ticket proceeds will go toward expanding CMB programs for youth in school districts of need in San Jose, Oakland, and Berkeley in 2014.

Lastly, find us on Facebook for more regular updates, photos, and discussions! We’d love to hear from you and to keep in touch between our seasons in the Bay Area!

Library Concerts for Kids- this week!

We’re off and running! After an exciting concert at Alum Rock United Methodist Church this morning, we kicked off our season with our first children’s concert at Morgan Hill Library in the afternoon. What a crowd! Together, we learned about the elements of beats & notes that make up melodies by composers including Haydn, Beethoven, Pachelbel, and Tchaikovsky. Afterward, the big surprise for our young audience was the Chamber Music by the Bay Petting Zoo, where they could try out mini violins of their own!

We’re excited for our NEXT children’s concert, on Thursday, January 10th at 7:00PM at Los Altos Library. Bring any and all young ones, and join us to learn more about how the string quartet family comes together to make music!
